ScaffoldEDP is a developmentally aligned Engineering Design Process that supports design thinking from PreK through 12th grade. Built on the foundation of well-established EDP elements, ScaffoldEDP introduces complexity gradually, allowing students to grow their problem‑solving skills over time. Whether in a STEM classroom, a writing workshop, or a makerspace, the model encourages creative, process‑oriented learning across all subjects.
While many schools use some form of the EDP, there’s often little consistency in how it’s presented across grade levels or subject areas. This inconsistency can lead to confusion for both students and teachers—especially those without a STEM background—who may find existing models too technical or overwhelming.
ScaffoldEDP was created to solve that problem. By offering a shared structure with age‑appropriate language and scaffolding, it helps educators maintain a clear, unified approach across classrooms, schools, and districts. The result is a flexible tool that not only supports the development of engineering habits of mind, but also invites all educators to engage students in reflective, iterative learning.
